Playlist for 11-21-2014 S420130

The music heard on Dread of Night comes from a myriad of sources – a lot of vinyl (45s, LPs, EPs, 12″ 45s, dub plates, one offs, previews, promos, test pressings & specials), cassettes, CDs, MP3s, DATs & vintage reel-to-reel analog recordings. The program airs selections from a half century of collecting Jamaican or Jamaican-inspired music. Much of this isn’t readily available elsewhere. Some of it is quite rare & obscure. I, of course, make no claim to ownership of any pre-recorded materials.

Psycho acoustic dub adventures – aka specials or dub daze – often defy title and explanation. Raymoan Ameche is supposed to keep track of these things and he does take copious notes during each weekly jump up, however Ras Eddie Ille maintains our dibby dibby soundbwoy can neither read nor write. It’s my distinct pleasure to share with you. With each show I’ll endeavor to list song titles though occasionally I may well be vexed to recall just what did come next.

Jackie Brown – “Wiser Dread”
Culture – “Rastaman A Come”
Joe Higgs & the Wailers – “Let Us Do Something”
Sang Hugh – “Rasta No Born Yah”
Lovendeer & Chalice – “Pocomania Day” &

                                                                         “Adina Come Back”

And so a pocomania revival session leads into another psycho acoustic dub mashup of heavy bass & riddim from that curious Land of Look Behind which is apt to leave the banana grower and his boon comrades mentally ska’d.
The Wailers & the Upsetters – “Don’t Rock My Boat”
The Fabulous Five – “Ooh!  Wah!”
Ini Kamoze – “Babylon Babylon”
Busy Signal – “Secrets”
Busy Signal Ft. Alborosie – “Murderer”
Sizzla – “Watch Out” Nuh Fraid riddim
Blackstarliners – “Roaring Lion”
Gary Clail & The Precinct of Sound – “There’s Something Wrong With Human Nature” dub
Inversion – “Headless Dub”
Dubby Doo – “Duhaney Dub”
D-Roy Band – “Runaway Rockers”
Admiral Bailey – Science Again”
Myriad – “Rude Boy”
Alborosie – “Herbalist” dubstep remix
